In my ongoing exploration of home I have come to appreciate that the HOME I long for most is the love in my own heart. When I am cut off from that love, I am not at home. My hope is that the music of this album will in some way bring you home."

Home Songs, my second solo album, has grown out of the soil of motherhood and the ground of family life. Several of the melodies first came to me as lullabies that I would hum to my babies. Others were composed with an instrument in one hand and a toddler on my knee. My babies have grown into little people and the melodies have become the songs of this album. Songs are akin to children, they begin with an inkling, a whisper and build and grow beyond the imagination! Chris Gartner, the producer of this album, was instrumental in growing these songs.

A note from Genevieve:

I grew up in a musical house in a musical neighborhood. The sound of a violin tuning, was a sound of home.  I lived in the classical music world for many years and then as a young adult my interests took me traveling around the world. Along the way, I was influenced by different cultures and approaches to music. I began to weave these influences into my playing. 

I have toured  internationally with bands as a violinist and seen much of the world through the perspective of the stage. Perhaps, what I am most known for is my long time accompaniment of Krishna Das. In Krishna Das’s music I found a merging of music and spirituality that resonated. Through my work with Krishna Das I have toured extensively throughout North America, South America and Europe.

I composed my first solo album, Walking Home,  when I was pregnant with my first son. It told the tale of a traveler Walking Home. Two kids and some life later, I have completed my second solo album, Home Songs. This album is a shift in my orientation, drawing upon the sounds and melodies of everyday life to express a collective ode to both the longing and cultivation of home. It is a celebration of the numinous in the ordinary and a musical exploration of finding home in the people that we love.
